Supervision for Counsellors, Psychotherapists and other helpers
I see the two main purposes of supervision as:
• to protect the welfare of the people you work with
• to support you and to assist your personal and professional development.
Both these elements are equally important in order to ensure the well-being of clients, practitioners and the profession.
Experience and Qualifications
As an Accredited BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapist I have been qualified to Supervise others since 2015. However, as I believe that Supervising is a distinct role that requires additional skills to counselling I undertook specific training at the Link Centre and gained a Diploma in Supervision in 2018.
In my training I studied with participants from different approaches to learn how to supervise both within my own theory and across other theoretical modalities. I would therefore, describe my approach to Supervision as Integrative.
I am able to provide purely Person-centred Supervision to practitioners of this model.
I have experience supervising Counsellors, Psychotherapists and other helping professionals, individually and in groups, within organisations and privately.
Supervision for All
I feel strongly that anyone who has a responsibility for or involvement with the well-being of others will benefit from an opportunity to explore their work and the impact it has on them in a safe, confidential setting.
Working with other's distress can take its toll on us and exposes us to the possibility of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue.
Most of us know the old oxygen mask adage - if there is a problem on an aeroplane and the oxygen masks drop, you must put your own on before attempting to help others with theirs. You will be no use to them if you can't breathe. This advice applies to all who help others for a living.
The practitioner needs to be healthy and cared for themselves in order to do their job.
It is for this reason that I provide supervision not only to Counsellors and Psychotherapists but also to other helpers.
These include: Teachers, Learning Support Assistants, Osteopaths and Care workers.
The regularity and amount of Supervision can be arranged to suit the Supervisee's needs and professional requirements.
